Time travel is my favorite trope, romance my favorite genre, so I'll never not give a time travel romance a try. Unfortunately, this book was more frustrating than enjoyable. Patrick and Ella seem to be in Amelia's story rather than their own, the elopement subplot little more than a reason to keep the pair traveling not-so-incognito, and Patrick and Ella's forced marriage plot was, well, forced.

Patrick seems fairly rooted in his time, if a bit dull, but Ella is the worst caricature of a modern geek: shallow, selfish, no real interests or knowledge beyond a narrow pool of pop culture crap. Worse, she can't seem to grasp simple things like a man born in the 18th century isn't going to understand modern hormonal birth control or that a peer living in the 19th century was going to hold a high value on having children. She demands Patrick give up everything but is unwilling to sacrifice anything herself. And I don't understand why she'd even care about a date to her huge event if she thinks she's never going to be with anyone ever anyway. Ella, dear, if that's the case then go bask in your well-earned glory unencumbered. How great would that version of Ella been, on her way to revel in her independence and success instead of begging for a blind date? And why would anyone even want a rando tagging along at the biggest event of their lives? (Willing to concede that maybe I'm just the weird one on this point as blind dates aren't a thing in my culture at all, much less as part of major life events.)

I could get into more specifics, but ugh. It was just all so tiresome. I'd say I'd rather have known Amelia's story, but she seemed so selfish and reckless with the feelings and reputations of others that I just wanted to see her get Maria Bertram'd—or at least SOME kind of growth. There was a good story seed there in the disappointed calf love vs a finding real love in adulthood vein, but instead she gets her gormless vicar. Yay?

Another match made in heaven! I wasn't sure how this one would end. But it ended beautifully. I still hope for another one!
I just got this book yesterday so of course I had to read it right away. I have read the other two books before this and loved them as well. I would suggest reading the other books before this since it isn't really a stand alone book. The humor and style of writing the author has makes the read enjoyable and I found myself just smiling and laughing out loud at the situations that happened. No point in summarizing the book for you but I enjoyed the 1st and 3rd book best. Read this book, you'll love it.
Fun read. I've enjoyed all the book by this author so far. Ella was fun to read about. Patrick was so sweet. The story made me feel, so thats great for me. The beginning was a little rushed, but I loved the story anyway. Give it a try.
I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't work for me. The writing felt forced, and the book was high on drama for drama's sake instead of developing interesting characters and a compelling plotline. I won't be reading the other books in the series.
Ella was hilarious! I totally adored her geeky, comic book loving and quirky sense of humour. She was so realistic and just what I would imagine a modern day woman would say and do if sent back in time. Time travel is not foreign to her, as in the past books she has travelled before, but this time is different. She is totally not prepared to be sent back in time. She’s wearing a bandage dress, stilettos and purple streaks in her hair.
How hot is the cover of this book? I adored the model on the front cover and I have to be honest it unleashed a lot of Mr. Darcy fantasies – albeit a blond version. Patrick was a great character. He wants to walk the straight and narrow and be a gentleman, but through his interactions with Ella, his true character was slowly revealed. He was an amazing man, full of passionate ideas and character. I adored that he came into his own thanks to Ella’s arrival into his life.
For an uptight gentleman, Patrick certainly knows how to let loose in the bedroom. Ella recalls her previous romantic adventures and what disappointments they were. It seems she was just lacking the right chemistry and partner. They make a great pair and their chemistry sparks up the pages.
The main plot is Ella’s transportation to the past and her relationship with Patrick. However, she arrives in the midst of a scheme that Patrick has a part in. The situation causes Patrick, Ella and his cousin Ian to hie all over England. This brings an element of danger and adventure to the story. It allows Patrick and Ella to see each other’s reactions to dangerous and difficult decisions.
What I loved about this book was that sometimes you just feel that you are born in the wrong generation or lifetime. Sometimes I wonder if I had been alive in a different era would my life be better? As a young woman, I used to wonder how realistic it was that my life long partner would just happen to reside in the same city I lived in. I watched all these people around me marry and I would always wonder if I lived in a different time or city, would I meet someone that was the best fit for me? This book explores some of those wonderings I had as a teen. Ella goes back in time and finds the perfect man for her. The present wasn’t her place to find her match.
